Rebalance and paperwork
Friday 25th September 2026When a rebalance takes place, you’ll receive contract notes for the transactions carried out on your account. A contract note is simply a record of a buy or sell transaction. As a number of transactions may be required during the rebalancing process, you may receive several contract notes. You don’t need to take any action when you receive these as they’re provided to confirm the transactions that have taken place as part of the normal management of your portfolio.
If you hold your investments on Nucleus, contract notes will be sent according to your chosen correspondence preference. If you’ve opted for paper correspondence, they’ll be sent to you by post. If you’ve chosen paperless correspondence, they’ll be available online through Nucleus Go. Unfortunately, we cannot control the volume of paperwork, either in hard-copy or electronically, as this issue is a regulatory requirement.
Why do we rebalance?
Over time, different types of investments, and the funds within your portfolio, will produce different returns and it’s important that we maintain the correct balance between the potential investment returns and risk.
As part of this process, we carry out a detailed review of your portfolio each year, including the asset allocation and the underlying funds, and will advise you if we recommend any changes.
Investing is a long-term journey. Whilst receiving contract notes might prompt you to check your portfolio, checking too frequently can sometimes lead to unnecessary worry. Markets naturally experience short-term ups and downs, and day-to-day fluctuations are normal and often driven by short-term events. However, history has shown that over time, markets tend to reward patience and discipline. By focusing on your long-term financial goals rather than short-term movements, you’re more likely to achieve meaningful growth.
If you have any questions about the transactions shown on your contract notes, please do get in touch with us and we will be happy to help.
