We're raising money for the Isle of Wight Branch of the MND Association
The Sea Cadets
As you know, we like to remain active in our community and support the wonderful volunteers and organisations without whom many people on the Island would struggle.
Some organisations strive to improve outcomes for young people and with this in mind we are spreading the word about the Cowes and Ryde units of the Sea Cadets who are currently looking for volunteers, trustees and boat instructors. Each unit is an independent charity, affiliated to Sea Cadets UK, that provides a head start in life for young people through nautical adventure and fun.
Volunteers
As a volunteer you are working directly with young people, and behind the scenes, to help make a positive difference.
Trustees
Both units are looking for trustees to support the sustainability and future of their charity. It is a voluntary role with clear benefits to the local community and for you personally.
As a unit trustee you would be a ’guardian of purpose’, working with other trustees and senior volunteers to ensure that all decisions put the needs of young people first. You would also be part of safeguarding the charity’s assets both physical (including property) and intangible (such as reputation).
The time commitment varies between roles, but as a minimum, all trustees attend between six and ten unit-management meetings a year, on a weekday evening. Most other work (admin) can be completed at home.
As well as both units looking for general trustees with a view to taking over key roles in the future, the Cowes unit is looking for general trustees to join the management team and the Ryde unit is looking for a Secretary and a Treasurer.
