Paying for our services

Throughout the financial services industry, following the Retail Distribution Review, it is now a lot clearer that advice isn’t, and never was, free.

At Rouse Limited we have always declared the true cost of our advice service and the products we recommend: we want you to understand the worth and value of the service we provide. We also want you to understand fully what you are getting, how much it will cost and what is the most appropriate way for you to pay for it. Only when you are clear and happy about this will we proceed with any work on your behalf.

Your initial consultation meeting with us is free of charge and you are under no obligation to proceed.

Adviser charges

We offer a predominantly fee-based service and it operates in the same way as other professional advisers, such as accountants and solicitors. Through our Financial Planning Reporting and Lifetime Cash Flow Forecasting services we listen to you in order to understand your existing financial situation, help you identify your financial goals and establish your personal risk profile. We then research the best investment methods for your situation and present you with the most appropriate financial advice.

The fee is for securing details of your existing investments, pensions and holdings; the completion of a risk questionnaire and the subsequent submission of a financial planning report; or in the case of cash flow forecasting, for the preparation and presentation of a lifetime cash flow forecast. The exact cost to you will be agreed prior to commencing any work and confirmed to you in writing.

We can also offer our services on a standard per-hour fee; this will vary depending on which member of the team you see and the rates will be set out and agreed with you in writing prior to our commencing any work. We will, on request, provide you with an estimate beforehand and check with you if we are likely to exceed a given amount.

Investment charges

We also offer the facility to pay for our services through investment charges: a percentage fee based on the amount you have invested with us. This means the fees you pay us are clear and unambiguous. We will charge no more than 3% – substantially lower for larger investments. Once again the rates will be set out and agreed with you in writing prior to our commencing any work.

However, whether you buy a product or not you will pay us a fee for our advice and services, which will become payable on completion of our work. We will agree the rate we will charge before beginning work and we will tell you if you have to pay VAT.

Non-investment insurance products

Some non-investment life and protection products do pay commission, which is paid to us by the product provider. We will not normally charge a fee for non-investment insurance products, (unless agreed in advance with you) so you pay nothing to us upfront. However, that doesn’t mean our service is free as you will still pay for our services indirectly through the product charges. These charges pay for the provider’s own costs and any commission to us.

Termination of a product

If we arrange a product for you from which we receive commission and subsequently you cease to pay premiums which results in us refunding the commission which has been paid to us, we reserve the right to charge you a fee to recompense us for the time spent in advising you and arranging the product. The amount and timeframe of the commissions that could be clawed back is dependent on the product chosen and will be detailed in your suitability report. We will not charge any fee if you exercise your right to cancel the product in accordance with the cancellation notice sent to you by the product provider.

On-going service provision

We aim to provide a high level of service to our clients but recognise that all clients do not require the same service. We have therefore established two service categories: Universal and Advantage. For each of these we levy a monthly charge equivalent to a small percentage of the funds held.

If you have specific needs and requirements, we are also able to provide a bespoke service, incorporating a range of the individual services included in each of the service categories. The cost for this bespoke service will be agreed with you and confirmed to you in writing.
